beginning to blog

wondering how to start a successful blog. Giving serious thought to blog regular. i always thought of writing a diary, but fear of losing my secrets always haunted me. but now i have come of an age, where i care about none. everyone has their own perspective on almost everything around. so does mine. so i don't mind revealing my thoughts and other nits and grits i come across in life. it would nice to have some feedback at times. though i am trying to blog. yet i haven't really understood how it functions. so as the first thing i like to do is completely understand the function and then get back to my first statement of this blog.
